Digicel SVG celebrated the 17-member Special Olympics delegation on June 13th as they departed for the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin.
In a press release today, (June 17), employees from Digicel SVG gathered at the airport to wish the local team bon voyage with a brief sendoff ceremony. The upcoming World Games will be running from June 17-25.
Victor Kovacs, CEO said, “Digicel is proud to be a supporter of Special Olympics in SVG and across the wider Caribbean. Here, we have supported them in their journey to Berlin, and we want to wish them all the best. The hard work and dedication these athletes have put in is remarkable and we know they will do their country and their coaches proud.”
In Berlin, the SVG team joins thousands of other athletes and unified partners from approximately 170 countries across the world, competing in 24 sporting areas. Collectively, Digicel is supporting 10 countries across the region, including Aruba, Curacao, Dominica, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago, the press release stated.
The World Games has become the flagship event of the Special Olympics movement and has grown to be an international demonstration of inclusion, acceptance, and unity, the press release further stated.
Kovacs said, “The entire Digicel SVG team is excited to see how the SVG delegation does, and we will be there at the Argyle International Airport to welcome them home upon their return.”
