More relief supplies are headed to the hurricane-ravaged Grenadine island of Canouan tomorrow (July 7).
Minister of Sustainable Development – Hon. Carlos James announced on July 5 that the French Naval Vessel – Dumont D’Urville which travelled from Martinique with supplies will dock at Canouan on Sunday, July 7.
The vessel docked yesterday (July 5) on Mayreau with supplies and will dock today (July 6) on Union Island with supplies. It will also travel to the Grenadian-owned island of Carriacou with supplies.

Minister James said he visited Union Island, Mayreau and Canouan on July 5, where a team was providing logistical support to the many officials and volunteers on the ground supporting the relief efforts in the Southern Grenadines after the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Hurricane Beryl devastated the Southern Grenadines on July 1, displacing many people.
Some areas on the mainland were also adversely affected.
Minister James said supplies were received from GSD’s MV Dawn and French Naval Vessel, Dumont D’Urville.

“Thank you to the many volunteers, military personnel, NEMO staff and team members for your continued support to SVG, particularly the Southern Grenadines,” Minister James said.
Some people in Canouan have been calling for more humanitarian assistance and media attention highlighting Hurricane Beryl has devastated the island.
Some people have left the island and have taken shelter on the mainland while others have told One News SVG that they have nowhere else to go.
So far, the National Emergency Management Organisation – NEMO and private entities and individuals have been providing some support to the people who have decided to stay in Canouan, but some of the residents have told One News SVG that more support is needed.
