Some 23 students interested in Building Construction and Architectural Design-related careers are being molded through an initiative spearheaded by Khyle Browne.
The Browne’s Initiative is in its third year and features different professionals mentoring and providing practical exposure to various career paths to selected participants in an internship setting.
This year, the initiative is being held at the St. Vincent Grammar School compound for three weeks, focusing on disaster response. The programme began today (August 7).
Founder and coordinator of the initiative, Mr. Khyle Browne, told One News SVG that the Browne’s Initiative 2024 Internship Program aims to provide students with hands-on experience in damage assessments, leveraging skills in digital media, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and leadership. This intensive three-week program is designed to challenge students, enhance their practical skills, and prepare them for future careers in related fields.
He said the programme has three main areas to cover over the three weeks. They include a focus on Digital Media and STEM Integration, STEM Projects and Leadership Development, and Final Projects and Showcase.
Mr. Browne explained why disaster response is the focus this year, stating, “We believe that equipping our future professionals with skills in disaster response is crucial. This focus not only enhances their technical abilities but also prepares them to contribute meaningfully to their communities in times of need.”
Mr. Browne, who is a trained Quantity Surveyor, said that participants in the programme gain an edge in their studies, with some from previous years moving on to master their craft in STEM-related studies or careers.
