Two Charged With Murder and Conspiracy After Buccament Shooting

Police have arrested and charged two individuals in connection with the fatal April 12 shooting of a 19-year-old labourer in Buccament.

Rosia John, a 46-year-old female security guard of Layou, and Augustus Mathews, a 22-year-old male of Layou, were both charged on April 16 with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

In an April 17 press release, by the Royal St. Vincent an the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), police allege that between April 10 and April 13, 2026, the two conspired to commit the offence of murder, and that they later caused the death of Perrance Mathews by shooting him with a firearm in Buccament.

The accused appeared before the Serious Offences Court today (April 17) to answer the charges.

Meanwhile, Rosia John, the mother of Enrique “Shobu” John, a 29-year-old labourer killed in the double homicide at Stoney Ground on April 10, was also charged with Two Counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug and Drug Trafficking.

Police say that investigations revealed that the accused had in her possession two hundred and twenty (220) grams of cannabis and two hundred and seventy (270) grams of cocaine, with the intent to supply it to another.

She was also charged with having in her possession two hundred and seventy (270) grams of cocaine for the purpose of drug trafficking.

“The offences were committed on April 14, 2026, in Layou,” police say.

She appeared before the Serious Offences Court to answer the charges.

The matter was adjourned until Monday 20th April for her to plea the drug charges.

Neither John nor Matthews were allowed to plea in the matter regarding the murder charges, as murder is an indictable offense.
