The National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority (NPRBA) officially launched the Barrouallie Government School Environmental Club on Wednesday, April 22, in celebration of Earth Day 2026.
The club carries the motto “Think clean, live green – small actions, big impact!” and forms part of the Authority’s Environmental Awareness Programme aimed at promoting education, awareness, and stakeholder engagement in the conservation of biodiversity, parks, and protected areas.

Forty students have joined the newly established club, reflecting strong enthusiasm among young people to take part in environmental protection and sustainability efforts.
Through the Environmental Club, students will be encouraged to develop awareness of key environmental issues and take meaningful action in protecting natural resources.
The NPRBA stated that Barrouallie Government School was strategically selected for the initiative due to its proximity to two protected areas, as well as the presence of an active community group.
The programme also supports the wider objective of establishing environmental clubs in two schools by December 2027, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental education and youth involvement across communities.

The launch forms part of Earth Day 2026 activities, which highlighted youth participation as a key driver in building a more sustainable future.
The NPRBA expressed gratitude to its partner agencies, including the Forestry Services, Sustainable Development Unit, Ministry of Tourism, Zero Hunger Trust Fund, and the Ministry of Education, for their support in the programme.
The establishment of the Environmental Club marks a continued commitment to engaging communities and empowering youth to play an active role in environmental conservation.
