The general public is cordially invited to join Equal Rights, Access and Opportunities SVG Inc. (ERAO SVG) on Saturday, 20th June 2026 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM at UWI Global Campus, Kingstown, for its “Defining, Exploring and Discussing Key Concepts and The Law Surrounding Human Sexuality and Gender in SVG” workshop to learn, explore and discuss the law and other key concepts surrounding sex, sexuality and gender in SVG.
This workshop will be facilitated by School and Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Alisa Alvis, and Attorney-at-law, Shirlan “Zita” Barnwell. Free food and drinks will be provided for all persons in attendance.
Some questions that may be explored at the event are, “What is sexual orientation?”, “What is gender identity?”, “What is the legal status of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in SVG?”, “In the absence of explicit protection under laws in relation to employment, housing, healthcare, education, goods and services, family law, etc., how can LGBT persons be protected through the current legal framework or general laws locally?”, “Can a parent throw a child out of the house for being gay?”, “Is the Domestic Violence Act inclusive of same-sex or trans partner relationships?”, “If a same-sex couple is married outside of SVG, do they have any rights domestically?”, “If one person in a same-sex relation owns property, what happens to said property upon their death?, “If someone is “raped” by another person of the same-sex what protection is available in SVG?”, etc.
ERAO SVG thanks its generous funders for sponsoring this event.
