The Blue Marlins Swim Club says its inaugural Learn to Swim Camp has given more young Vincentians an opportunity to develop swimming skills while supporting the club’s wider goal of promoting water safety across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
According to the club, the three-week camp was held from July 13 to 31, 2026, and catered to children between the ages of three and 16. The initiative was introduced to provide youngsters who may not otherwise be able to attend regular swim training with an opportunity to experience the sport in a fun and supportive setting.
“Through the swim camp, they would get the much-needed exposure and introduction to the sport of swimming in a fun and pressure-free environment,” the Blue Marlins Swim Club said in a release.
The club said participants also took part in a range of activities beyond swimming, including arts and crafts, fun sports and snorkelling. According to the release, the snorkelling sessions were particularly popular, giving many of the children an opportunity to appreciate the underwater environment.
The Blue Marlins Swim Club said the camp forms part of its broader mission to encourage more Vincentians to learn to swim, describing swimming as an essential life skill for people living in an island nation surrounded by the sea and with numerous rivers.
“Swimming is a life skill that the club would like to see many more Vincentians being equipped with,” the club said.
The club further stated that at least one person has drowned in St. Vincent and the Grenadines each year over the past five years, a trend it said underscores the importance of expanding access to swimming instruction.
“Blue Marlins Swim Club is on a mission to get more of SVG swimming, and this swim camp was just the start,” the release stated.
The club also acknowledged the support of several businesses and individuals whose contributions helped make the inaugural camp possible. They include Agricultural Input Warehouse, Acado Ltd, SVG Pools, Mountain Top Water, Frencille’s Butchering Services, Medix Pharmacy, Audrey Arramsingh, and Joset and Carmaleta Garraway.
In addition, the Blue Marlins Swim Club thanked parents for entrusting their children to the care of its coaches and management throughout the programme.
As the club looks to build on the initiative, it is encouraging more families to enrol their children in its Learn to Swim classes as part of its ongoing effort to increase the number of Vincentians equipped with lifesaving swimming skills.
