The Archery Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines (AASVG) is preparing to send Vincentian archers to three regional events for the first time in 2026, while seeking public support to help meet the costs of participation.
The association said the development reflects the growth of archery in St Vincent and the Grenadines, with athletes preparing to compete in Barbados and Guyana.
Two masters archers will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines at the National Senior Games in Barbados from September 25 to 27. The AASVG said this will be the first time its masters archers participate in a masters competition outside the country.
The association will then send a delegation of 10 archers and one coach to Guyana from October 22 to 25 for the Caribbean Development Championships and the Caribbean Championships.
The AASVG describes the Caribbean Development Championships as an event for developing archers from across the region, while the Caribbean Championships is described by the association as “the premier archery competition in the region”.
The association said its progress has come despite “very limited resources”, noting that it has developed from “humble beginnings” into a young but strong archery federation in the Caribbean.
The AASVG has thanked the National Lotteries Authority, Air Adelphi Ltd and other donors for their assistance in helping the team meet the costs of attending the upcoming competitions.
However, the national archery team is still seeking support from the public as it prepares for the regional competitions.
As part of its fundraising efforts, the AASVG Athletes Committee will host a barbecue on Saturday, August 29, at the Joshua Center in Arnos Vale, beginning at 10 a.m.
Chicken will be on sale for $20, with the flyer for the fundraiser stating that all proceeds will help raise funds for the upcoming Caribbean Championships in Guyana.
The fundraiser will also offer an incentive for persons interested in taking up archery. Anyone who pays for one archery lesson will receive a second lesson free.
The association is encouraging members of the public to support the national team while taking the opportunity to learn more about the sport.
The upcoming competitions represent an important period for the developing federation, with Vincentian archers preparing to compete at three regional events in 2026.
For the AASVG, the push extends beyond competition. The association is also using the fundraising drive to introduce more Vincentians to archery and encourage new participants to take up the sport as its national team seeks to make its mark on the regional stage.
