At least two families are reportedly trapped in their homes in Buccament as heavy rains cause flooding, debris and damage across parts of the community.
Several residents have been forced to seek refuge as floodwaters rise.
One resident, Diana, told One News SVG by telephone that several people were taking shelter in the only concrete house in the park area as they waited for the situation to improve.
“Water came in the house. It was past our ankle,” she said, adding that they managed to get out of the water and were now hoping that the waters would subside.
“We inside praying that the water doesn’t get higher,” she said.
The residents are reportedly confined, while others have sought safety as conditions deteriorate.
Residents also reported significant damage to wooden houses in the neighbourhood, with some reportedly partially destroyed and others washed away completely.
The heavy rainfall has also affected the Buccament Secondary School, where a back wall gave way, allowing floodwaters to enter the compound.
Meanwhile, reports from nearby Pembroke indicate that a tree and large amounts of debris are blockingroads, further disrupting movement in the area.
