Kingstown (ON SVG) – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said today that the country’s second Covid-19 patient, a female who arrived in the country the USA on March 25 should have respected the mandatory quarantine since she came.
The patient, who was under a mandatory quarantine, as was everyone who came into the country at the time, started showing Covid-19 symptoms on March 28, three days after she arrived and was tested.
“There were clearly breaches the Wednesday, the Thursday and up to the Friday evening that I’ve been advised” – Prime Minister Gonsalves said.
According to the Prime Minister, the patient breached the quarantine and health officials were called in by persons in the community who reported the matter.
The Prime Minister said the Health Ministry is doing all the contact tracing.
“In fact, even before the positive test, they were doing the contact tracing” – Dr. Gonsalves said.
Results which came back from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) laboratory on Wednesday indicated that St. Vincent had recorded its second Covid-19 case.
The first Covid-19 patient, also an imported case, has since recovered , making the second case the only confirmed case presently.
