Kingstown (ON SVG) – Mass training of teachers and education officers in online systems is currently taking place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as Covid-19 pandemic has led to the disruption of face-to-face learning.
Minister of Education, Jimmy Prince said in Parliament on Tuesday that over 200 teachers have already been trained and over 200 more will be trained this week in an initiative spearheaded by the University of the West Indies, Open Campus.
As for delivery of material, the Minister said “consensus was reached on a suitable online platform for mass education of students following a review of a variety of needs”.
“The OECS Education Management Unit has suggested strongly that we use Notes Master and the Microsoft Teams were determined to be the most suitable” – the minister added.
The move comes as schools in St. Vincent will be closed for a further two weeks, in the first instance, as the country tries to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
