$100,000 Support From PAHO

Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is providing further support to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment for the prevention and control of COVID-19.

The budget for the assistance is $100,000.00, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Senator Luke Browne said in his daily updates today (April 28) on Facebook.

“This provision will be used to purchase computers for surveillance, thermometers, public service announcements, machines for cleaning public transportation vehicles and medical equipment and supplies”- Senator Browne stated.

Morning Updates on COVID-19 Pandemic and the National Response for Tuesday, April 28, 2020:

1. PAHO is providing further support to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment for the prevention and control of COVID-19 with a budget of $100,000.00. This provision will be used to purchase computers for surveillance, thermometers, public service announcements, machines for cleaning public transportation vehicles and medical equipment and supplies.

2. The World Health Organisation has published guidelines for countries considering lifting of restrictions. I will discuss the details as the apply to SVG in a different forum.

3. A Stay-at-Home for the May Day Weekend has been issued. Please check it out. We strongly recommend that you avoid going out in that period unless absolutely necessary.

4. Vincentian companies are playing a leading role in the transportation of passengers and cargo between countries at this time of COVID-19 travel and trade restrictions. We applaud One Caribbean airlines for recently assisting with the return of Trinidadians stranded in Barbados to their home country. We also note delivery of goods from SVG to Carriacou by Gem Star.

5. Rotary Club South donated a container of supplies to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment including hospital beds, surgical equipment, medical supplies, wheel chairs, walking canes and other items that would be used at the Isolation Centre in Argyle
