AA flight quarantine breakers went to Mangoz & Church

By Demion McTair. Updated 7:25 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2020, Atlantic Standard Time (GMT-4).

Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – Some persons who arrived on the American Airlines flight on Saturday (July 11) broke their quarantine and went to Mangoz Restaurant and Bar, at Arnos Vale, last night, and to church this morning, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said on radio today (July 12).

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said today, on WEFM’s Issue at Hand program that “I heard that a couple of people went to Mangoz last night, a couple persons went to church this morning”.

He added that these are persons “who come out of the US who were under specific quarantine because they were told some would be there for at least 24-hours” depending on their test results, “and others, because of a high-risk group, would be there for 14-days”.

“The ministry (of health) has its own metrics and measures” – he said.

But, those who broke their quarantine were not tested positive for COVID-19. The Prime Minister said that two persons who came on the American Airlines (AA) flight tested positive for COVID-19 and they have been contained and contact tracing done for the persons they may have come into contact with on the flight.

The prime minister said that the arriving passengers were served court orders and informed orally as to the quarantine instructions.

The prime minister said he is appealing to the 154 persons who came on the flight to cooperate, follow the instructions, and listen to the health authorities.

He said that most persons are following the regulations but a few persons are creating problems.

Of the 154 passengers who returned to St. Vincent on the flight from the US, two of them tested positive for COVID-19.

All of the passengers were PCR tested here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Saturday (July 11) and the tests were also sent to the CARPHA lab in Trinidad via an RSS aircraft to be verified and returned today (July 12).

The flight was the first commercial flight out of the US to St. Vincent and the Grenadines since the COVID-19 pandemic let to a halt in commercial air travel in March.

  1. Please tell me Mr Primister. Why are u allowing people from the covid-19 empicentre to come to our shores. Allowing them to leave and go to their various homes to quarantine? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever (aren’t they gonna infect people they live with, who then would come into contact with other vincentians ?) Why can’t u just keep them in isolation until we are sure they are covid free ? U have placed the entire island in danger of having an outbreak which our health system cannot with stand .
