Brampton City Hall to be lit in Vincentian colours

The City of Brampton connects with the Vincentian Community.

The clock tower at City of Brampton’s City Hall will be lit on World Environment Day in solidarity with the citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines after the devastation caused by the eruption of the Island’s La Soufriere volcano that occurred in April. The Clock Tower will be lit from sunset, June 5 to sunrise, June 6.

World Environment Day reminds us how fragile the environment is and the need to protect it. Brampton is a Green City; sustainability is a key developmental pillar for the City as it is for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Erica Henry-Jackman, FDI Coordinator for the City of Brampton, states, “The clock tower lighting on World Environment Day symbolizes friendship and hope and underscores the urgent need for a global focus to facilitate economic growth, innovation and sustainable management of our environments.”

St.Vincent and the Grenadines Consul General Fitz Huggins, “The rebuilding of our Island after April’s eruptions and the strengthening our commitment to protect the environment, will require proactive, meaningful and equal involvement from all stakeholders, including governments, private entities and local citizens, for our collective goals to be successful. We are delighted to have the lighting of the City Hall Clock Tower on World Environment Day; it symbolizes our collective commitment to the environment and renewal.”

The Brampton community has been active with its relief efforts for the island nation. One organization, the Brampton Community & Economic Empowerment Network BCEEN, has taken the initiative to assist by focusing on the Island’s medium and long-term needs to help in its economic recovery. In the coming months, BCEEN will be reaching out to individuals and organizations who can procure and or donate the necessary items and equipment that will be able to meet the Island’s needs in the following four areas: health, agriculture, emergency humanitarian assistance and infrastructure as identified by the Consulate.
