The official launch of the Kingstown Port Modernization Project which was scheduled for Monday has been postponed to a later date.
Speaking during the Issue At Hand Programme aired on WE FM on Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves explained why the launch of what he described as an “important project” did not take place yesterday.
Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said: “the CDB called and said that it is going to be difficult for them and the British representative to come and they asked if we can postpone it.”
Dr. Gonsalves said he agreed and will reschedule the event when he returns from the ALBA Summit which will be held this week in Cuba.
The Prime Minister said although the project has not yet been officially launched, work has been ongoing.
A US$170 million contract for the Port Modernization Project was signed a few weeks ago between the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Aecon, a Canadian Construction firm.
