Japan’s ambassador to SVG visits PM, Opposition

After presenting his Letters of Credence to Governor-General H.E Dame Susan Dougan on Monday, June 27, H.E Matsubara Yutaka, Non-resident Ambassador of Japan to St. Vincent and the Grenadines visited both Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Opposition Leader – Dr. Godwin Friday.

According to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ambassador Yutaka, during his two-day visit, held bilateral discussions with Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Senator Keisal Peters, Minister of State with responsibility for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

The prime minister and ambassador Yutaka reaffirmed strong bonds and cooperation between both countries and discussed a number of ongoing projects in St. Vincent that have Japan’s support.

Prime minister Dr. Gonsalves also congratulated Japan of the country’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and reaffirmed SVG’s support for Japan.

According to the New Democratic Party’s Facebook page, ambassador Yutaka made a courtesy call to Leader of the Opposition- Dr. Godwin Friday on June 27.

According to the NDP, they spoke on various matters including the La Soufriere eruption, whaling, and the sargussum seaweed problem.


Dr. Friday also encouraged continued and more frequent engagement between SVG and Japan.
