Senator Julian Francis was admitted to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on Sunday, sources have confirmed.
The government senator, who is the minister of Minister of Urban Development, Energy, Airports, Seaports, Grenadines Affairs and Local Government, is also the General Secretary of the incumbent Unity Labour Party – ULP.
Sources close to the matter said that Senator Francis has suffered a stroke. No further details have been given about his condition.
News of his admission to hospital come just about a week before the ULP’s July 31 convention in which the position of deputy chairman, chairman, political leader and deputy political leader were to be decided upon.
It also came moments after prime minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves publicly announced that unless advised otherwise, will lead the ULP into the next general elections.
The next general elections are expected by 2025 but are constitutionally due by March 2026.
