The new bus fares take effect today, September 1, 2022, and children in their school uniform are required to pay only 50 percent of the fares.

In a memorandum dated August 23, 2022, Cabinet approved an increase in bus and taxi fares nationwide.

The memorandum which was circulated to the media on August 29, 2022, states: “School children in uniform will pay fifty percent (50%) of the respective fare.”

Most schools in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are scheduled to open for the 2022/23 academic year on Monday, September 5, 2022. Renovation works on others are nearing completion.

Some schools, however, are holding their orientation for new students this week, and the students are required to be dressed in full uniform.
