An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident that occurred along the Old Sandy Bay Public Road at about 2:55 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022, that claimed the lives of five persons while several persons received injuries with varying degree of seriousness.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Motor Vehicle H-8190, a green Toyota van, owned and driven by Napata Louis of Clare was traveling from Clare Valley to Owia when it went over an embankment along the Old Sandy Bay Public Road. Clare valley residents Giovanni Barker, Ishmael Bruce, Elvis Harold, Colin Robin, and Kenroy Haywood all succumbed to their injuries. Several other passengers sustained injuries including the driver of the omnibus and were all taken to the Georgetown Hospital for medical attention. Motor Vehicle H-8190 was extensively damaged.
At this time, investigations in the incident are ongoing.
