Kingstown Preparatory School wins Grade 6 Writing Competition

Zahndra Roberts of the Kingstown Preparatory School won the finals of the 2023 Ministry of Education/Hodder Grade Six Writing Competition.

The finals were held today (January 18), at the Curriculum Development Unit where ten (10) finalists in the competition gathered to write different types of discourse on given topics.

The discourse types included exposition, narrative, persuasive, and descriptive writing.

Ms. Roberts out wrote nine other finalists with her descriptive piece.

In second position was Mr. Kajj Murray of the Windsor Primary School who also chose to write on the descriptive genre.

In third position was Ms. Crystal Webb of the Evesham Methodist School.

The students received their winning trophies and prizes at a closing ceremony of the competition which was also held today at the Frenches House.

Outstanding performers in the competition’s preliminary round were also recognized and awarded prizes.

Ms. Crystal Webb received the award for the best persuasive piece in the preliminary round.

Ms. Jeniah Carr of the Bequia Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School received the award for the best descriptive piece in the preliminary round.

The award for the best expository piece of writing in the preliminary round was captured jointly by Mr. Xavontea Deane of the Lower Bay Inc. School, and Ms. Tyra Danzine of the Questelles Government School.

Mr. Keyron Huggins of the Gomea Methodist School captured the award to the best piece of narrative writing in the preliminary round.
