Some Vincentians wishing to travel to Canada will no longer require visas to do so.
Instead, they would need an Electronic Travel Authorization – eTA which is an entry requirement for visa-free foreign nationals traveling by air to Canada.
The announcement was made moments ago by Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship – Mr. Sean Fraser.
He was holding a LIVE media briefing via YouTube.
Mr. Fraser said the eTA program will be for “known” travelers. Those are individuals who have “held a Canadian visa in the last ten (10) years or who holds a current United States Visa.”
Mr. Fraser said the eTA takes minutes to be processed, it only costs $7 to apply, and it will allow more families to reunite and for more people to visit Canada.
“An ETA is valid for up to five years or until the user’s passport expires, whichever comes first,” Mr. Fraser said.
The other Caribbean countries to benefit from the visa waiver are Antigua and Barbuda, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.
In September 2012, Canada had imposed Visa travel to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
