Seven (7) first-year students from the Division of Technical and Vocational Education (DTVE) at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) have received bursary support from the East Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC) to assist with expenses related to their studies.
The presentation took place on Friday, 17 April 2026, where each student was awarded EC$1,000.00 in bursary support.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Dean of the DTVE, Mrs. Taneille Davis-Murphy, noted that ECGC’s support extends beyond financial assistance. She highlighted that past recipients have also benefited from internship and employment opportunities within the company, strengthening the link between education and workforce development.
Dean of the DTVE, Dr. LaFerne Browne, emphasised the financial challenges faced by many students, noting that limited resources can place their academic progress at risk. She described ECGC’s contribution as vital to student retention and success, while expressing appreciation for the company’s continued partnership with the Division.
The long-standing relationship between SVGCC and ECGC was also highlighted, reflecting a shared commitment to national development. Mrs. Abigail Haynes-James, Chief of Staff in the Office of the CEO, said ECGC places strong emphasis on investing in people, particularly young people. She also referenced the ECGC Foundation, established in 2017, which supports initiatives in education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the recipients, Ms. Ofiesha Samuel expressed gratitude to ECGC, noting that the bursaries would ease financial pressure and allow students to focus more fully on their studies.
SVGCC expressed its sincere appreciation to ECGC for its continued investment in student development and its ongoing support of higher education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
