Cultural Ambassador and Soca artiste Gamal Doyle, better known as Skinny Fabulous, says his latest song One Vincy was born out of concern over growing divisions among young people in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The song, which calls for unity and an end to violence linked to rival groups, was written after the performer encountered what he described as a troubling reality while filming a music video in Kingstown.
Speaking in an interview with One News SVG, Skinny Fabulous said he had arranged for two groups to take part in a video shoot, but many failed to attend because of tensions linked to so-called “six” and “seven” affiliations.
“I had no idea that it was so prevalent in St Vincent,” he said, explaining that he was particularly disturbed when he learned that the divisions had spread into schools.
The experience stayed with him overnight and inspired him to abandon plans for another recording.
“The next morning, I woke up and I’m like, ‘Nah boy, this, I need to get this off my chest’,” he said, adding that the song was written spontaneously rather than as part of any campaign or strategy.
Rather than aiming for a party anthem or chart success, the artist said the objective was to communicate a message that young people would embrace.

“Music is a very powerful tool,” he said. “The more you could get positive messages in a cool sounding way, the better it’s received.”
Skinny Fabulous said the song was primarily aimed at young people who may be caught up in territorial rivalries or exposed to gang-related influences.
He expressed hope that the track’s message would resonate even if listeners were not consciously focusing on the lyrics.
“Sometimes as long as you get people or the kids singing something, whether or not they’re internalising the direct message of it, it’s still a very effective way of getting the message across,” he said.
At the heart of the song, he said, is a simple appeal for national unity. “This fighting thing, this war on these numbers thing don’t make sense,” he said. “At the end of the day, we are one Vincy.”
The message extends beyond the song’s lyrics. Skinny Fabulous deliberately chose filming locations associated with violence and community tensions, saying he wanted to bring the conversation directly into affected neighbourhoods.
“I just wanted to go right in the belly of the beast,” he said, explaining that he hoped residents would recognise familiar locations and reflect on the song’s message.
The artist also acknowledged music’s influence on behaviour, arguing that songs which glorify rivalries can reinforce existing tensions by making them appear acceptable or attractive.
For Skinny Fabulous, One Vincy is an attempt to use that same influence in a different way encouraging young Vincentians to see themselves not as rivals divided by numbers, but as members of one community and one nation. The song “One Vincy “is also the name of his upcoming album which is a body of all his musical works, which can be found on his social media pages and other digital platforms, early June, 2026.
