The St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown community is mourning the loss of one of its students following a tragic vehicular incident in Bequia on Wednesday.
Twelve-year-old Brianna Veira, who had recently been promoted to Form Two at the school, died after the vehicle in which she was travelling with family members was involved in an incident while on the Grenadine island.
Brianna began her education at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School before continuing her studies at St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, where news of her passing has left classmates, teachers and staff grieving.
Parents and fellow students have been pouring out sympathies for the family. They describe “Bri” as a good person loved by everyone.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle was ascending a hill when it reportedly stalled before rolling backwards and colliding with a tree. Brianna, who was a passenger, sustained critical injuries.
Members of the family was reportedly sightseeing in Bequia as part of their summer vacation when the tragedy occurred.
She was transported from Bequia to mainland St Vincent for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel to save her life, she was later pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation as the relevant authorities work to determine exactly what happened.
Brianna’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from those who knew her, with many remembering her as a young student whose life was cut tragically short.
