Two women have died following a boating incident off Grand Anse Beach in Grenada on Saturday, August 8, as the island marked Carnival Saturday.
The Royal Grenada Police Force confirmed that it is investigating the incident, which resulted in the deaths of two people.
Police, in a statement issued on Saturday, did not provide details on how the incident occurred, saying further information would be released as it becomes available.
However, Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN), citing eyewitness accounts, reported that the two women were aboard a vessel when they reportedly jumped into the water together and came into contact with the boat’s propeller.
According to the report, one woman died at the scene, while the second was taken to the General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
GBN also reported that the captain of the vessel – Kayak Princess, had been detained as police continued their investigation. No name was provided for the Captain.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially confirmed by police.
GBN further reported that one of the bodies was still visible in the sea following the incident, although this detail had not been independently confirmed by authorities at the time of publication.
The tragedy occurred during one of Grenada’s busiest Carnival periods, turning what should have been a day of celebration into a scene of grief.
