Five young men have been charged with affray following an alleged public disturbance along the Richmond Hill public road on Tuesday, August 25.
Oxford dictionary defines affray as an instance of group fighting in a public place that disturbs the peace.
In an August 26 press release, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said the accused are Azim Alexander, 22, a conductor of Stubbs; Tyrone Prince, 23, of Sion Hill; Aron Cupid, 27, a chauffeur of Victoria Village; Shaquan Simon, 18, a conductor of Victoria Village; and Everette James, 19, of South Union.
According to investigators, the men allegedly took part in a public disturbance along the Richmond Hill public road on August 25. As a result, they were arrested and jointly charged with the offence of affray.
The five appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, August 26.
James pleaded guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of EC$1,000 with one surety.
The remaining four defendants pleaded not guilty. The conditions of their station bail remain in effect.
The matter has been adjourned and transferred to the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, where it is scheduled to resume on January 6, 2027.
The charge remains an allegation, and the four men who pleaded not guilty are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty before the court.
