Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, remains in a stable condition after being admitted to hospital on Sunday evening and is expected to be transported overseas for specialised medical observation as a precaution.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the Cabinet Secretariat said Dr Drew sought medical attention at the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital on the evening of August 30 after experiencing mild discomfort, nausea and a headache.
The Prime Minister was immediately admitted for observation and underwent what the government described as a thorough clinical evaluation.
According to the statement, doctors and specialists at JNF General Hospital have monitored Dr Drew continuously over the past 18 hours. Following comprehensive examinations and diagnostic assessments, his treating physicians confirmed that he remains awake, alert and in a stable condition.
The government said the decision to transfer the Prime Minister overseas was made out of an abundance of caution and based on the recommendations of his medical team.
“Prime Minister Drew [will] be transported abroad for specialised observation and precautionary monitoring,” the statement said, adding that arrangements for the transfer are already underway.
The Cabinet Secretariat sought to reassure citizens that the country’s affairs continue to operate normally despite the Prime Minister’s hospitalisation.
“The public is reassured that the business of government continues seamlessly and without interruption,” the statement noted.
The Cabinet and Government of St Kitts and Nevis also appealed to the public to keep Dr Drew in their prayers and wished him a swift and full recovery.
Officials said a further update on the Prime Minister’s condition is expected to be issued at 7 p.m. on Monday.
No additional details about the cause of Dr Drew’s symptoms or his overseas destination were disclosed in the statement.
