A 44-year-old electrician from Belair has been charged in connection with an alleged incident involving a 66-year-old retiree of Brighton.
Police have charged Lennox Shortte with aggravated burglary, assault causing actual bodily harm, threatening language, kidnapping, and taking a conveyance without lawful authority.
According to police, investigations revealed that between August 27 and August 28, 2026, Shortte allegedly entered the dwelling house of the Brighton woman as a trespasser while armed with a cutlass.
He was further charged with assault causing actual bodily harm after allegedly beating the woman about her body with the cutlass and his hands, causing injuries.
Police also allege that Shortte used threatening language towards the woman, telling her: “I told you I was gonna get you, you see how easy it is?, you gonna die tonight”.
He was additionally charged with allegedly kidnapping the woman without her consent.
Shortte faces a further charge of using motor vehicle P-3162 without the consent of the owner or any other lawful authority.
The alleged offences occurred in Brighton.
Shortte appeared before the Serious Offences Court on August 31, 2026. He was not required to enter a plea, as the charges are indictable.
He was granted bail in the sum of EC$10,000 with one surety and was ordered not to have any contact with the complainant.
The court also ordered Shortte to report to the Calliaqua Police Station every Monday and Wednesday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. He was required to surrender all travel documents, and stop notices were placed at all ports of entry and exit.
The matter was adjourned until September 5, 2026.
