Layou labourer charged with grievous bodily harm

A 29-year-old labourer from Layou has been charged with grievous bodily harm following a reported cutlass attack in the community last week.
Police said Jaden Williams was arrested and charged on August 29 in connection with an incident which occurred in Layou on August 27.
According to the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), investigations allege that Williams unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on a 47-year-old labourer from Diamond by chopping him about the body with a cutlass.
The incident occurred on the road leading to the mountains in Layou.
Williams appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday, August 31, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was granted bail in the sum of EC$8,000 with one surety. As part of his bail conditions, Williams was ordered not to have any contact with the complainant and to report to the Layou Police Station every Monday and Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents, while stop notices were placed at all ports of entry and exit.
The matter was adjourned to October 6, 2026.
The charge against Williams is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
