A school supporting children with special needs has received a EC$10,000 contribution from Sentry Insurance to assist with the operation of the Helping Hands Centre in New Montrose.
The contribution was presented at the Centre on Monday, September 14, 2026, with Sentry Insurance General Manager Fidel Taylor highlighting the company’s commitment to initiatives that positively impact the local community.
Chairman of the Helping Hands Centre, Junior Bacchus, expressed gratitude for the contribution and appealed to other businesses and organisations to lend their support as the Centre works to meet its annual operational needs.
According to Sentry Insurance, the Centre’s operational expenses amount to approximately EC$48,000 annually. The company said its contribution is intended to assist with those expenses.
The Centre is managed by the Association for People with Disabilities (APD), which began in the late 1980s as a group of parents seeking to challenge stigma and discrimination against people with disabilities and create greater opportunities for their children. APD opened its first school for children with disabilities in Argyle in the 1990s before establishing the Helping Hands Centre at its current New Montrose location, where it was officially opened in 2001.
The contribution is part of Sentry Insurance’s wider involvement in community initiatives in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, including previous support for causes in the health and community sectors.
Sentry Insurance said it remains committed to “giving back and supporting communities across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.”
The contribution comes as Helping Hands continues its work to provide educational support and opportunities for children with special needs in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
