A 29-year-old labourer from Lowmans Leeward has been charged in connection with the shooting of a woman in the community earlier this week.
Police arrested and charged Andre Providence on Thursday, October 22, with the offence of wounding.
Investigations revealed that Providence allegedly unlawfully and maliciously wounded a 30-year-old waitress, who lives at the same address, by shooting her in the left leg with a firearm. The incident happened in Lowmans Leeward on Monday, October 19.
Providence appeared before the Mesopotamia Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, October 23, and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was granted bail in the sum of EC$2,000 with one surety. Under the conditions of his bail, he must report to the Questelles Police Station every Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The court also ordered him to have no contact with the complainant.
The matter has been adjourned and transferred to the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, where it will be heard on Monday, October 26.
One News SVG first reported the shooting on the day it happened. At that time, well-placed sources said the woman had been shot in the leg, but the circumstances surrounding the incident were unclear.
Providence is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
