Grenada election debate set for October 28

With Grenada’s November 5 general election approaching, three political leaders are set to participate in a televised national debate on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, where they will discuss issues ranging from the cost of living to governance and public services.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Opposition Leader Emmalin Pierre of the New National Party (NNP), and Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) leader Peter David are confirmed for Grenada’s Choice 2026: The National Leaders’ Debate. The event will take place at the Grenada Trade Centre, beginning at 7 pm, before a live audience.

The two-hour programme is expected to include 90 minutes of structured debate under the theme “The Issues. The Choices. Grenada’s Future”. Organisers say the discussion will cover the economy, healthcare, education, employment, governance, accountability and Grenada’s long-term development.

The debate is being organised jointly by the Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG), Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN), The Bubb Report and the Grenada Conference of Churches. Representatives of the three participating parties met with the National Leaders Debate Committee on Thursday to discuss the arrangements, including the debate rules and moderators.

The event brings together leaders from three parties contesting the upcoming election, although they are not the only political groups seeking parliamentary seats. Both the NDC and NNP are fielding candidates in all 15 constituencies, while the DPM is contesting nine.

Mitchell led the NDC to victory in the 2022 general election, ending the NNP’s consecutive terms in office. Pierre, who became the NNP’s first female political leader, now serves as Leader of the Opposition. David, a former government minister, has represented the Town of St George in four general elections since 2003.

The debate comes eight days before Grenadians vote to elect their representatives to the House of Representatives. It is expected to provide a public platform for the participating leaders to outline their positions on national issues and respond within a structured format.

Further details about the moderators, audience arrangements and broadcast platforms are expected to be announced before the event.
