NDC secures 14 of 15 seats as Dickon Mitchell wins second term
By Roxanne Thompson. Updated 8:52 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2026, Atlantic Standard Time (GMT-4).
Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, has secured 14 of the country’s 15 parliamentary seats in Thursday’s general election, according to preliminary results published by the Parliamentary Elections Office.
The opposition New National Party (NNP) secured the remaining seat in St George North West, where its candidate Adrian Joseph emerged victorious. The results give the NDC a significantly increased parliamentary majority, allowing Mitchell to return to office for a second consecutive term.
The outcome represents an increase in the party’s parliamentary representation from nine seats in the June 2022 general election, when it defeated the NNP administration led by former Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell. Thursday’s results also mark a change in the political fortunes of the NNP, which entered the election seeking to regain control of government under the leadership of Emmalin Pierre.
The election involved 46 candidates contesting 15 constituencies across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. More than 97,000 registered electors were eligible to vote, with the results determining the composition of the elected House of Representatives.
With the preliminary count giving the NDC 14 seats, Mitchell’s party is set to continue governing with a substantial parliamentary majority.
