Campden Park, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – The shooting death of Sergeant of Police, Philbert Chambers today (April 26), by Gleason Lewis is a tragic day for both Chambers and Lewis families.
Chambers was a highly respected police officer and Lewis came from a family of respected individuals.
Lewis’ father is Glasley Lewis, originally from Rose Hall and a Former Deputy Principal (and then Principal) of the Barrouallie Secondary School.
One News understands that he also served as Principal of the Bethel High School/Campden Park Secondary, and Principal of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, where he retired.
Reports are that Gleason Lewis came back to St. Vincent from the United States of America (USA) about a month ago.
A trusted source very close to the family said that the former school principal who is Gleason’s father told them that he is “ashamed” of his “son’s actions”.
One News SVG has decided against directly contacting members of the family at this time, due to the obtrusiveness of the issue.
“This morning, he (Gleason’s father) tried taking a camera away from someone”, the source said, indicating that the family wishes to remain private about the matter at this time.
The source also said “The police should have the report documented which were being made from Friday 24th April 2020”.
Chambers was reportedly shot by Lewis, while trying to issue a warrant.
