Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – Route Transportation Service in St. Vincent and the Grenadines was launched recently in the midst of a global pandemic.
The reality of the pandemic and the physical distancing requirement it forced upon us, however, have not hindered the progress of the new Uber-style service in St. Vincent.
In a recent email interview with One News SVG, one of the proprietors of Route SVG, Terry Clarke, said “We are up and running a few weeks now and the feedback from Drivers and riders is good”.
“Currently we have around 40 Drivers and over 100 Riders”, Clarke said.

Clarke said, however, that due to COVID 19 “we are not expecting the numbers we predicted”.
Clarke said there are technical issues with the mobile application and the company is currently working on them.
“We’re having some issues with Riders and Drivers alike with working the app, which we understand because it’s the first of it’s kind in SVG” – he said.

“However, persons are using the apps to book rides nevertheless; which we are happy with” – Clarke added.
Clarke said Route SVG is currently pushing an extensive marketing campaign on Facebook to bring awareness on how to use the app.
He is encouraging persons to subscribe to @Route on Facebook and Instagram to be part of the education campaign.
HOW ROUTE WORKS
In an article sent to One News SVG In mid-April, the managing team for Route said Route is a platform that connects riders in any given area to drivers that are ready to take you from one place to another.

The app brings to St. Vincent and the Grenadines a modern, first-world approach to transportation and can almost be likened to Uber.

Uber is an organisation with a smartphone app that will find, summon, and pay the fare of a cab/taxi for you in many cities, according to Quora.
The accepting Uber driver will then come and pick you up and drive you to your requested destination.
With Route, the entity said “Anyone who has the Rider’s app and wants a ride can place a request in the app, which will then notify the nearest drivers. The first driver to accept your request will arrive at your location to pick you up and drop you off at your desired destination. You will be notified about the transportation fare before you are able to book a ride”.
