Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says efforts must be made to accommodate vendors who have been asked to move from their location outside Massy Supermarket at Arnos Vale.
On WEFM’s Issue at hand program on Sunday (July 12), Dr. Gonsalves said “It would be very good if we can get a place somewhere within the vicinity where we can properly house them, a piece of land”.
He said “But, the things is this: there have been a lot of complaints by ordinary citizens about the matter,” referring to traffic congestion and health and sanitation issues.
“We have to try to accommodate them in some form or fashion,” he said.
One News SVG visited the vendors today (July 18) and they said they were given notice to leave the spot by July 16, two days ago.
They said, however, that no update has been given to them about relocation.
The prime minister said efforts are ongoing to remove more than 200 vendors off the streets, nationally.
He said the ministry of local government and the ministry of works, have done works on part of the old customs building to reconfigure it to house vendors currently on the streets.
