The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) will be hosting their eighth annual icode784 Competition during the period September 15th-November loth, 2020. Since the inception of the competition in 2013 there have been an increase in the amount of entries received each year, along with innovative ideas from participants. In addition to winning cash prizes, for the first time this year, two persons from the winning Secondary Mobile Application category team along with their mentor will be travelling to Barcelona, Spain in March 2021 to attend an event for startups hosted by GSMA called 4YFN (4 Years From Now)
The icode784 competition comprises of two categories: Secondary category and Open category. These categories encourage participants (students attending secondary schools and residents of SVG within the age limit of 35 years) to present an idea or a mobile application that will facilitate the implementation of new systems or improve existing systems for both the private and public sectors within St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The competition will also bring about numerous economic benefits to St. Vincent and the Grenadines which will include the following:
- It encourages innovation amongst the youths to develop and implement ideas to improve
the efficiency of local businesses. - It facilitates a young population of application developers that can contribute to the
development of e-commerce in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. - Participants of the program will have the ability to build apps that can gather client data
which can be leveraged to improve long term relationships. - The icode784 competition will encourage more businesses to invest in mobile apps as the
younger population are being taught in this area
