Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – Shadow Minister of Health, and Vice President of the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), Mr. Daniel Cummings said the NDP has funding to construct a new national hospital.

At the NDP’s Manifesto launch tonight (October 24), at Petit Bordel, Mr. Cummings said “we have a funded plan, we have the money, we have the facility to construct a new national hospital in this country”.

“We are not going to offer you a hospital on a billboard. We are going to offer you a real hospital within the first term,” Mr. Cummings said.

He added that “we will ensure that the hospital is properly equipped and has the requisite staff to carry out the work needed for improving lives”.

But, while Mr. Cummings outlined plans for the proposed new hospital, if the NDP wins the November 5, 2020, General Elections, he did not outline the cost of the proposed facility, who is funding it, or where it will be built.

Mr. Cummings’ remarks came days after the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) published, on billboards, a rendering of a proposed Acute Referral Hospital it says will be constructed at Arnos Vale.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said months ago that the design for the proposed new hospital at Arnos Vale was funded by the World Bank.

In the 2015 general election, the NDP had promised that if they won the general elections, they would construct a new hospital. The location was undisclosed, but some party officials touted the constituency of East St. George as the venue.
