Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – The government is considering using private laboratories to assist in the conducting of COVID-19 tests in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

At a press conference today, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said once the private labs have the capacity, they can assist the testing situation.

The need for additional testing comes as St. Vincent and the Grenadines has had a backlog of COVID-19 test results to analyze, since the recent upsurge in the number of local cases and heavy contact tracing.

The increased testing capacity is also needed to support people who are required to have exit screening to travel to several countries including Barbados, the UK, Canada and from January the 26, the US.
