Acting Prime Minister, Montgomery Daniel, in an address to the nation on Friday night, confirmed that the B16172, known as the delta variant of Covid-19 has been detected in the country.
The variant was confirmed in a sample sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency and is from a fully vaccinated adult who arrived in SVG from the UK on July 21, the deputy prime minister said.
It was detected through entry screening at the Argyle International Airport.
The traveller arrived with negative PCR test. The individual remains isolated.
Contact tracing detected two Covid-19 positive travellers but the individuals’ tests were negative.
Delta described is by the CDC as a variant with increased transmissibility.
