Accommodations on Union Island are fully booked for the Conch Festival weekend which officially begins today (February 24), a representative of the Union Island Tourist Bureau has revealed.
The festival is being hosted by the Union Island Tourist Bureau and runs from February 24 to 26, 2023.
Chairman of the Union Island Tourist Bureau, Mr. Stanton Gomes said Conch in the Street will be held today. This event will feature all the restaurants on the Clifton Main Road offering conch dishes.
This event will also facilitate the welcoming of persons arriving on Union Island via the ferries.
It follows Culture and Conch which was held yesterday (February 23). It was an event that was added to the calendar of events for the festival, and it promoted steel Pan, culture and conquerors performances and conch dishes at Determination Bar.
On Saturday 25 which is Conch Festival Day, many competitions will be held including the famous conch-blowing competition.
Several vendors will offer conch dishes and conch crafts.
On Saturday, an event – Friends with Benefits will also take place and will feature a live band and popular DJs.
The festival will culminate with Conch on the Beach on Sunday, February 26.
Two excursions will arrive on Union Island for that event, one from Bequia and another from Canouan.
That event will feature a Live band and DJs and more conch dishes.
The purpose of the Conch Festival is to generate economic activity on Union Island while highlighting the importance of the conch.
