The George Stephens Secondary School (GSSS) hosted a Career Day Fair on Friday, June 5, 2026, bringing together students, educators and professionals from various sectors to expose young people to future career opportunities, as part of the school’s 21st anniversary celebrations.

According to a press release from the state-owned Agency for Public Information (API), representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as religious organisations, participated in the event, with many of them being past students of the institution.

Primary and secondary schools from across the North Windward constituency also attended the fair, where students had the opportunity to interact with professionals in fields including education, healthcare, law enforcement, finance, technology, hospitality, entrepreneurship and public service.

The agency stated that students enthusiastically participated in the activities, asking questions about educational requirements, workplace expectations and opportunities for growth within various industries. Many described the experience as motivating and said it provided them with a clearer understanding of potential career paths and the steps needed to achieve their goals.

The agency also noted that representatives from participating organisations stressed the importance of career exploration at an early age and encouraged students to remain focused on their studies, develop strong work ethics and pursue lifelong learning.

Principal Calvin Providence expressed appreciation to the organisations and professionals who participated in the initiative for their commitment to youth development and career education, the release stated.

The George Stephens Secondary School (GSSS) was established in 2005 in Colonarie as part of the Government’s expansion of secondary education in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The school was named in honour of the late George Stephens, a respected educator and former principal who made significant contributions to teaching and community development in the area.

Since its establishment, GSSS has marked anniversaries with a range of commemorative activities aimed at celebrating its growth and strengthening its relationship with students, alumni and the wider community. These activities have traditionally included thanksgiving services, community outreach initiatives, alumni engagement events and programmes designed to reflect on the school’s development and contribution to national education.

The Career Day Fair formed part of these ongoing commemorative activities, providing students with exposure to various professional fields while supporting the school’s broader goal of preparing young people for future careers.
