Union Island, The Grenadines (ONE NEWS SVG) – In a tragic turn of events, two victims of the May 19, Union Island gas station explosion have died.
Freddy North, the owner of Freddy’s Gas Station, the property that exploded on May 19 died today (May 24).
North, who suffered first degree burns about his body had been hospitalized.
Hours after North died, Lindani Neverson, 14, died. Neverson had sustained third degree burns to most of his body as a result of the May 19 incident.
Neverson, a student of the Union Island Secondary School was also hospitalized, along with Graniqua (Zara) Alexander, 17, who was also hospitalized as a result of the incident.
Alexander is now the only surviving victim of the May 19 explosion.
A GoFundMe initiative was started on Saturday (May 23), for both Lindani and Graniqua to help raise US$172, 743 to enable the students to get urgent specialized care at a burn center in Martinique.
At press time, over US$10,000 had been raised.
It is not clear what is the position of Zara, medically, and how soon she can be flown to Martinique.
There is mourning on Union Island and throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines as in response to news of the deaths.
