In this issue, we focus the attention on the constituency of Central Kingstown, where we have first-time Unity Labour Party (ULP) candidate Mr. Dominic Sutherland and the New Democratic Party (NDP) incumbent – ‘Major’ St.Clair Leacock. Their plans are as follows but are not limited to:
Mr. Dominic Sutherland: {The following information was taken from his speeches delivered on ULP platforms from September to October 2020.} The first-time candidate development plans for the constituency are as follows:
- Upgrade the Lodge Village Government School
- Upgrade the George Mc Intosh Community Market
- Work with community leaders to reactivate and enhance youth& community groups.
- Construct river defenses along with continuing work at North River road.
- Renovate all sporting facilities throughout the constituency.
- Repair Community Centers.
- Expand the offerings at community centers by offering vocational training.
- Upgrade road infrastructure throughout the constituency.
Mr. St.Clair Leacock:{The following information was taken from his speeches delivered on NDP platforms from September to October 2020.} The incumbent’s development plans for the constituency are as follows:
- Introduce the Constituency Development Fund.
- Repair and upgrade the Sharpes playing field and Pavilion which includes putting AstroTurf (an artificial grass surface, used for athletic fields)
- Upgrade, repair and build bridges throughout the constituency which includes a link bridge Largo Height/Green Hill – Lodge Village and fixing the Damwall bridge.
- Resurface and implement proper lighting at the Green Hill playing field.
- Upgrade the Largo Height playing field.
- Construct a Hard Court at Redemption Sharpes
- Construct a Hard Court at Kingstown Park
- Implement flood lights at the Anglican Church playing field at Pauls Lot.
- Construct a gymnasium and auditorium between the St.Vincent Boys Grammar School & St.Vincent Girls High School for indoor sporting, recreational activities and graduation ceremonies, among others.
- Redevelopment of Block 2000 – Old Montrose.
- Redevelopment of Dasent Cottage – Largo Height.
- Negotiate with the Anglican Authorities to construct a Polyclinic at Redemption Sharpes.
- Introduce (VAREP) Vincentian Association for Retired and Elderly Persons to improve the health care of the elderly.
- Introduce a housing program.
- Upgrade and improve all schools within the constituency with special attention to the St.Vincent Boys Grammar School & St.Vincent Girls High School.
- Implement a Business Centre at Redemption Sharpes.
- Introduce Apprenticeship programs.
- Make green spaces/recreational facilities throughout Kingstown.
- Provide more comfort stations/Bathrooms within the city that also caters for the elderly and disabled.
- Develop the tourism potential of the constituency.
- Construct an Agro-processing plant to prevent food wastage.
- Repair and upgrade all roads throughout the constituency.
