Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves was awarded Cuba’s highest national award on Thursday, the Agency for Public Information – API has announced.
Dr. Gonsalves is currently in Cuba for the XXI (21st) Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) which begins on Friday.
Dr. Gonsalves was awarded the Order of José Marti from the Government of the Republic of Cuba (presented by President Miguel Díaz-Canel).
It is Cuba’s highest National Award and is named after the Cuban National Hero, who became the symbol of Cuba’s struggle for Independence.
Dr. Gonsalves left St. Vincent on May 25 with a delegation which includes Wife of the Prime Minister Eloise Gonsalves, Minister of Education Hon. Curtis King, Permanent Secretary Angie Jackson, Cultural Ambassador Rodney Small and Security Personnel Gregory Lowman.
In addition to attending the ALBA Summit, Dr. Gonsalves will also participate in a series of bilateral meetings in Cuba.
There will also be activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between St Vincent and the Grenadines and Cuba.
St Vincent and the Grenadines and Republic of Cuba established diplomatic ties on May 26, 1992.
