The Lions Club Kingstown–SVG is currently delivering its annual Eye Care For U outreach programme, continuing a long-running initiative that provides free vision care services across St Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a recent press release, the organisation stated that the initiative is being held from May 25 to May 29, 2026, at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) campus in Glen. The outreach is being conducted in partnership with Sight For Life, a visiting team of eye doctors and technicians from the United States.

The programme includes free eye examinations and referrals for further treatment, including access to corrective eyewear and surgical procedures where necessary at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. Patients identified as needing glasses will receive them in the near future through donated supplies from optometry partners in New England, USA, with distribution to be coordinated locally by the Lions Club Kingstown–SVG.

Additionally, approximately 120 patients received free medical eye exams last week as part of the organisation’s outreach activities. The exams were conducted across several institutions, including St Benedict Day Nursery and Children’s Home, the School for Children with Special Needs in Georgetown, Sunshine School for Children with Special Needs in Bequia, and Marion House in Kingstown.

The Eye Care For U programme has been in operation for 52 years and remains one of the organisation’s longest-running community health outreach initiatives.

In 2025, the Lions Club Kingstown–SVG reported that 86 cataract-related and corneal transplant surgeries were successfully performed at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), all free of charge to patients. In addition, more than 625 individuals received free eye care and vision screenings, along with blood pressure and glucose monitoring at the Community College Villa campus.

The initiative reflects the Lions Club’s broader mission of service, with a focus on improving access to basic healthcare and preventing avoidable vision loss across communities in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Lions Club Kingstown–SVG is part of Lions Clubs International, a global voluntary service organisation whose presence in St Vincent and the Grenadines dates back to the 1960s.

Registration for this year’s Eye Care For U outreach has closed. However, members of the public are encouraged to follow the organisation’s Facebook and Instagram pages, @lionsclubofkingstownsvg, for updates on future registration periods.
